Conference venue

The conference will be held in Helsinki, Finland at Säätytalo/The House of Estates on 7 – 8 September 2017. The address is Snellmaninkatu 9-11. The distance from the venue to Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is 20 km and 900 m to the Railway Station.

Social Program

All conference participants and accompanying persons are warmly invited to take part in the evening events. You can register by completing the relevant part on the registration form. Please note that advance registration is required.

Get-together party
at Seurahuone, Kaivokatu 12.
at 19 – 21 on Wednesday, 6 September

The get-together party is an informal meeting where old friends and colleagues can meet up and make new friends. A light buffet with wine will be served. Everybody, who already arrived to Helsinki, is welcome to join.

Reception of the Ministry will take place at the conference venue, Säätytalo/The House of Estates.

Conference Dinner
at Restaurant Katajanokan Kasino
at 19.30 on Thursday, 7 September

Fine dining with wines in legendary Katajanokan Kasino, which was opened in 1913 and totally renovated in 1996. The architecture and decor of Katajanokan Kasino - from the spacious Kenraali dining room to the distinctive and historical private rooms - represent a fascinating aspect of Helsinki’s restaurant tradition. Traditions are also upheld by the restaurant’s high quality kitchen. The seaside location and as spacious terrace make Katajanokan Kasino a real jewel of Helsinki.

Excursions

Ainola – excursion on the way to the airport on Friday

The excursion to Ainola, the ex-home of composer Jean Sibelius, straight after the Symposium – will be arranged if at least 10 people register. Maximum of 30 registrations. Jean and Aino Sibelius lived at Ainola until the end of their lives: Jean died at Ainola in 1957, Aino in 1969. Ainola is located close to Lake Tuusula in Järvenpää, about 30 minutes’ drive from the Finnish capital, Helsinki. It was the home of Jean Sibelius and his family from 1904. This timber-built villa was designed by the famous Finnish architect Lars Sonck.

The excursion starts at 15.15. On location, there will be a guided tour in the park for about an hour (16.15 – 17.15). The excursion ends by the gate outside of the café, where a glass of sparkling wine will be served. Then at 17.30 we’ll head towards the airport and will arrive there at 17.50.

Porvoo – excursion on Saturday

A half-day trip to Porvoo. Bus transportation to Porvoo with guide, one hour free time, gathering by the church, lunch and return. Price EUR 100/person. The trip will be arranged is at least 20 people register. Maximum of 50 registrations.

The excursion starts at 10.00, and we’ll return to Helsinki approx. 15.30.

Hotel accommodation

The organizers have reserved rooms in the following hotels. To benefit from the special rates, bookings should be made on the registration form. Please make your room reservation as  early as possible since the rooms are subject to availability.

The fee for the first night is to be paid as a deposit when making the reservation. The deposit is non-refundable in case of a cancellation. All remaining accommodation costs shall be paid at the check-out directly to the hotel. Prices are per room per night including buffet breakfast and VAT.  For a double room, please specify your roommate’s name.
